This Weekend

Saturday: The boys had a birthday party, and we went to their cousin's for supper and playing. I made a carrot cake for dessert, which I added a few embellishments too.
Sunday: Church and then Oma and Opa came over for Brunch. From there the boys went to the Moose game and the girls went to the Orchid Show at the Conservatory. It sure felt like spring in there!

Oma just couldn't resist buying Emma this cute little bunny bank there.

What we've been up to...

Here's what we've been up to in March, it feels like it's gone by really quickly...

Digging for Dinos
Noah got an excavation kit for Christmas, and just finished digging out the bones now.

Luke got a van door to the ear, compliments of older brother.
Ouch!

I've made these: Awesome-est Blueberry Muffins several times in the last month.
So Yummy, and not that bad so you either. (recipe make between 18 and 24 muffins)
Luke loves to help by putting the papers in the muffin tins and sprinkling the sugar on top.
We've also been making them with half blueberry-half raspberry. Mmmm...

Emma is waiting for her muffin. She's not on any solids yet, but she sure is interested. When sitting on my lap at meals she watches every forkful with interest from the plate to my mouth.
Just another month to go before she can give it a try.

Emma sat in her Bumbo and watched patiently (mostly) as I put the finishing touches on the Noah's Ark cake.

The boys and I made some Spring/Easter Window Clings. Which we put up just in time for the snow storm. Argh! I got the idea from Skip to My Lou. A great resource for activities to do with your kids.

Why are my kids playing with a garbage can? It's kinda hard to see from this picture, but they were making a castle with Daddy in the new snow.

We made a playdough volcano one morning, with real lava!

Then they played in the lava with their dinosaurs.

And Miss Em just sat beside us in her saucer and smiled. Isn't she the cutest!

Homemade Wipes

I know it's been awhile again, I've been in a bit of a haze, it feels like a long time since we've been healthy in the house, Emma and I are now recovering from yet another cold. It just doesn't quit. I was starting to feel hopeful, the weather was starting to warm, I was beginning to see the grass in the backyard, we even barbequed burgers, and now today we are stormed in again with yet another nasty snow storm. I'm a bit bummed out to say the least. So I'm gonna tell you about my homemade baby wipes. I know not very exciting, but not much else to talk about.

I found the recipe here. And the only thing I changed was I added less water because my first batch seemed very wet. So the second batch I only added 1 1/2 cups water. They are about half the price of the noname wipes. So definitley cost effective, and you can control what goes into them. I think they are a bit gentler on her bum too. Not really any more environmentally friendly, other than a little less packaging I guess. I have also hear of people just mixing up the liquid and keeping it in a spray bottle to use with their own cloth wipes.

I found my container at Dollarama for 2 bucks.
And attached my recipe with contact paper.

These paper towels are on sale this week at Superstore for $10.99, because you cut the rolls in half, this package makes 1320 wipes. Which works out to be less than a cent (0.83 to be exact) per wipe. Pretty good.

Next post will be more exciting I promise!

New Project

We are all healthy in our house right now. Emma is feeling better and the all the boys in the house have had their turn with the flu, so I'm hoping we're done now.

My new project is making a Noah's Ark cake for a baby shower. This cake is the first time I've worked with fondant, which made me a little nervous, but excited to try something new. It's something I've wanted to try for a long time. I can't wait to see how it all turns out.

This is also the first cake I've been hired to do. And I think that it is something I could enjoy doing in the future. So I've set up a separate blog for cakes and see if it pulls in any interest. So here it is Takes the Cake. And if you would like a cake give me a call!

Sick

We are sick at our house. Emma started coughing Friday, and it hasn't let up. I took her to the pediatrician and when she listeded to her lungs she said it sounded like a pneummonia and would send us for a chest x-ray. Then checked ears and said she both were infected and since the treatment for pnemmonia and ear infections is the same, we didn't need the chest x-ray. (thank goodness!) So Emma is on antibiotics for two weeks and an inhaler to help open her airways. She has been so miserable, hacking and wheezing. She's not sleeping, and has not left my arms for more than a few minutes for the last It breaks my heart to see her so sad and uncomfortable. But she did have a good night last, only waking twice. So maybe we're on the upswing.

Luke, who had just recovered from his own ear infection almost two weeks ago, was puking on Saturday. But thankfully only one day. And today Nath came home early from work and went straight to bed because he was feeling sick! I feel like I need to open the windows and air out this germy house so we can all get healthy again.
